you know you are in utah when....

I have just made the roadtrip back to college and of course was reminded of reasons I will miss California so much, but also what makes Utah and mainly BYU so unique. This has inspired me to make a list so....

You know you are in Utah when:

  1. Yielded left turns. To be honest I am really not a fan.
  2. There is more open land than buildings. Okay Utah I'll give you that the landscape is beautiful.
  3. It is 101 degrees outside yet you are still looking around to make sure there isn't snow on the mountains....but there still is.
  4. Gas makes a slurping noise when it is being pumped into your car.
  5. Random boys come up and help you move boxes.
  6. Chances are that at least 50% of the people on campus speak another language fluently.
  7. It is possible to awkwardly run into people you have met at EFY or "on the mish"
  8. There are more bridal and floral shops then Starbucks.
  9. Drive anywhere and you pass multiple church buildings and sometimes even a temple.
  10. The streets are numbered instead of named. I am still figuring out my North, South, East, and West.
There are many more but those are the first that seem to pop into mind. Here I am. Sophomore year here I come.

"summer has come and past...wake me up when september ends"

As of late I have decided I have a love/hate relationship with a whole lot of different things and one of them happens to be the end of summer. So, I have decided to list out the pros and cons so that the debate can be over once and for all...

Pros:

I get to see these fine ladys once again

attend this place:

gems like this walking on campus

football games:

crazed fans:

and of course the snowboarding:

So to be honest there really is no debate. I am excited to go back to school. Sure I will miss this:

and have to deal with this sometimes:

but besides that and all the hw I will have I kinda love it there :)
Provo here I come.

over it

Okay don't get me wrong, I know they are doing a great thing and helping a lot of people learn about the gospel but I am kinda over all my friends leaving for two years and being spread all over the world. Okay yes that is exaggerated. Not all of my friends are spread throughout the world on missions but quite a few are and letters don't really cut it (even if the stamps are really cool). Yes getting mail is one of my favorite things (and I may or may not be addicted to checking it) but that is just cause I get to hear from my friends. See its all connected.

So ya it's a love/hate relationship and I am over it. The worst part is the slow painful process. You see they don't all leave at once. I guess that's a good thing too...idk all I know is I want a fast forward button or something because school in the Fall will not be the same without them :(

Sadly I just have to wait it out like everyone else, make new friends but keep the old (like we used to say in girlscouts back in the day) and hope that the world hasn't changed too much that we won't all be friends again in two years. It's strange to think how much changes in that amount of time.  Who knows what will happen. Only time will tell, but until then I look forward to hearing about all the adventures they have and I hope so so so much that we will all still be friends....

lets be honest

Possibly one of my favorite phrases to use and the perfect title to this blog post because it is all over the place but I love it all. We will start with this one:

Let's be honest...I want these for my apartment. Legos are kinda one of my favorite things.

...I need this dog. I mean come on, he even has a satchel!!

...also, I love this tumblr I found called The Food of Love. They put song lyrics on pictures. Here is a little sample:

...yesterday my little brother graduated from high school!

so so proud!

...and today I got my first paycheck!

Life is good.  Sometimes I forget that, but like one of my favorite quotes says,"some blessings come soon, others come late, and some don't come until heaven, but for those who believe in God, they come. Keep your chin up. There is help and happiness ahead. It will be all right in the end. Trust God and believe in good things to come."

all in a day's work

nbd I just survived my first week of work. tired but I love it but enough about that and onto more interesting things like the adventure that was yesterday.
Collin was opening his mission call so I thought why not go so Riles and I romped on over. Along the way we found a thrift shop....we would find a thrift shop in the middle of nowhere...so we went in. Look at this treasure

Priceless right?! Also this

The paper says "bird not for sale"

All this was just the beginning. After the call was opened, we went out to the hammock. Apparently she is a kid magnet cause they all just flocked and may or may not have had a date with a 4yr old....haha
outta control.
Either way we had a good time and it was nice being there for Collin since it could be 2 yrs before we see him again.

Fun random fact time
-I hate having those dreams where you wake up and even after you do you still think it was real
-Park City emailed me saying passes were on sale already...prepared way in advance much? sorry its gonna be Canyons next season for me
-Also John and Kevin finished the snowboarding video which made me miss it so much! Such good times in Park City.  It's not gonna be the same without those boys.
-I got a sick ink disappearing letter from Japan the other day

Okay I think that is enough for now. Goin' to Knots tomorrow!

the list

I am pretty sure everyone has one.  Maybe not written down, but at least in your head of things you want to do before you die aka a bucket list.  Obviously things on such a list vary from person to person.  Some of mine include: fit inside a washer at a laundromat, ice skate outside on a frozen pond/lake, attend a masquerade.....but I am not about to tell you all the random junk that is on mine but instead I am going to say that today I got to check one off!
-CLIMB A TREE!
Now I would be lying if I said I was not scared.  Lets be real my hands were shaking and I did not stay up and explore to the extend most experienced climbers would but thanks to Ian and Clare I made it up there and that is what counts right? Maybe in round two I'll be more adventurous.

^^ the student and the teacher
Oh and to top off the day we came across these guys just chillin' in their boat singing and playing the guitar and harmonica that were smoking and obviously high.  Provided some entertainment to say the least.

road-trippin'

As of late I guess you could say I've been into road trips.  There is just something about watching the world fly by while abusing the glorious invention of cruise control at the same time blasting music (especially when it is blast from the past 90's music or taylor swift) and singing along for hours.  Sure at times it gets annoying and by the end it feels soooooo good to get out of the car and walk around but honestly I think it is worth it.  Why not spontaneously go places more often and visit friends? These last 2 weekends that is exactly what I did. Lets be honest.  I kinda do not want to drive again for awhile now but besides that I had a great time filled with many adventures. It really is the people not the place that makes somewhere great :)
Here are some highlights:
 true treasure from goodwill
bendy wax toy things free with our kids menus
 oh San Francisco

also these socks....
this mailbox....I think they fish? possibly?

 matt with pink hair
 visiting these girls :)
also not pictured would be more of my utah adventures...i fail at taking pictures. Well those adventures included:
-getting mistaken as an EFY participant while on campus
-getting owned at frisbee golf
-witnessing the man date that is the batting cages
-and so much more!

Basically I love my friends. You know who you are :) And no worries there will be more roadtrips to come so I can have adventures with more of you!!

Just a few...I think that's enough for now but ya I kinda love stumbleupon.

Strange Things Are Happening

Do you ever see something and wish you could take a picture of it without anyone else noticing? like a sneak attack? well I always feel this way and especially this weekend. I witnessed some interesting things.
First off, I was at a stake relief society thingy with my grandma and it was outta control. One of the speakers was definitely just wearing what looked to me like a blanket but was probably a shawl thingy and was SUPER dramatic.  Kinda like this:

Okay not that intense but still.  Her lesson was 40 minutes and I am pretty sure she only said 2 sentances over and over again. Maybe a sneak video would have worked better on that one...next time
Then, in a different class, this lady was giving the weirdest comments about saving all living things and healing yourself with natures herbs and the best part was that had nothing to do with the lesson. See I already knew this lady was strange cause she gave a talk in sacrament meeting on Easter all about how she is grateful for the resurection knowing all her cats will be in heaven with her... all I could picture was this:

so her strange comments in class were almost expected

Then, in the last class, the sister missionaries sat by me. One of them was new in our area and the whole time she was just sitting there coloring in a coloring book. haha. I wish I could have gotten a picture of that one too. This may have to do for now picture wise:

Then to make things even better, the coloring book was in a binder covered in pictures of her and I'm guessing her boyfriend.  I was like you are legitimately kidding me right? last time I checked she was on a mission so...ya it was a strange morning to say the least.

It's moments like that where I wish I could capture it and share it with the world. Maybe it was all those strange occurances, maybe just so many things changing but whatever the reason, I've decided I need to take more pictures.  They are fun to look back at and you never regret taking them.  Sure in the moment they can be kinda a pain but I think it is worth it in the end. So my goal this week is take more pictures.  Now just to not get sand in my camera...
